February 2021 horoscopes
Happy February! This month is a handful, to say the least. It’s overwhelmed with the square between Uranus and Saturn from February 16-24. While there are some sweet and challenging transits that will happen around this one, it’ll make itself known. If you have any personal planets at 4-9 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, or another air or earth sign, pay close attention to the Saturn-Uranus square for how it can show up for you personally.
Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius
It’s happening...again. Mercury will retrograde in Aquarius from January 30 until February 18. Mercury’s pre-shadow started on January 15, so you might have already felt the slow down, confusion, or irritation that comes with a retrograde. This energy will linger until the second week of March and Mercury will bump heads with a few planets as it tries to figure itself out.
New Moon at 23 degrees of Aquarius
February 11
This new moon packs a punch with Mercury in Aquarius squaring Mars in Taurus. Ego might drive our actions and communications today. Be careful with speaking from a place of emotion, especially anger. With Mercury in Aquarius, the tensions that do come to a head could reflect the ways in which we identify with and advocate for our personal values and beliefs, and how those conflict with the systems that shape our senses of normalcy and stability. If feelings you’ve held for some time need expressing, stand your ground while owning the impact of your words.
Mars in Taurus sextile Neptune in Pisces at 19 degrees
February 13
Neptune has a habit of smoothing Mars’s hard edges in this position, and this transit could relieve some of the tensions of the past few days. This is a great day to say “I’m sorry”, “I see you”, and “I hear you”. Whether finding healing and mutual agreement, or just taking a time out, this is a great time to step back and see the larger picture.
Venus conjunct Mercury at 14 degrees of Aquarius
February 14
Venus’s meeting with Mercury gives us the opportunity to discuss and share our feelings, to reflect on personal values and rise to the occasion of sharing ourselves with others in our lives. It’s Valentine’s Day, but this doesn’t have to be romantic. With Mercury in Aquarius, this energy is a gift to our friendships, community, our chosen family units and even ourselves. It’s a beautiful day to step back and indulge in the things that bring us pleasure, spark our creativity, and make us feel abundant. What have you been wanting to create? What beauty are you opening yourself to see around you?
Saturn in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus at 7 degrees
February 16 - 24
The conjunction will be exact from February 16-24, but Saturn and Uranus are in close quarters all month, so you might feel this much earlier. This shakeup is a big one, and with it taking place between these slow-moving planets, its effects will last much longer than this two-week span.
Taurus doesn’t like change, and Aquarius demands it on its own terms. This transit continues the disruption of our governing systems, structures of authority, and actions being taken against what is happening around us. This isn’t a “flash in the pan” transit. Saturn has moved into Aquarius, ushering in a more just idea of how we should engage with one another. With Uranus in Taurus, demands for permanent change will run up against those holding on to the past.
This is a cycle of creation and destruction — breaking things down and imagining new ways of rebuilding them. This transit demands flexibility. On a personal level, if we (or those we are connected to) resist change and growth, bridges can burn. We might feel how unwieldy Uranus can get, especially in conflict with Saturn. Find outlets for frustrations, anger, or anxiety.
Venus in Aquarius square Mars in Taurus at 23 degrees
February 20
Pay attention to pleasure-driven impulses today. This transit can give way to tensions and arguments stemming from “I want what I want when I want it” attitudes, and our values and actions may be out of sync with one another. This is happening at the heart of the Saturn-Uranus square. This is a transit to prioritize reciprocity, and find safe and consensual ways of indulging in play, creativity, and desire.
Mars in Taurus sextile Pluto in Capricorn at 25 degrees
February 24 - 25
We have an opportunity to reflect on the long-term changes we are wanting to make in our lives. Re-evaluating where we have been putting our energy and how we want to focus it moving forward. Today we can take on personal transformations, healing, and clearing out what doesn’t suit us anymore, with long-standing results. This transit comes toward the end of a busy month, and gives us time to reflect on what has happened and what we want to do in the future.
Full Moon at 27 degrees of Virgo
February 27
An easier transit to wrap up the month with, the Virgo full moon will trine Uranus in Taurus, bringing some life and levity to otherwise tough energies. This moon is also opposite Venus in Pisces, bringing our longings and all of the things that get away from us to the forefront. This new moon is rewarding us for initiating changes that need to be made, and moving away from deceiving ourselves about conditions that don’t serve our best interest.

Aries + Aries Rising
Who are your people, Aries? Are you surrounded by individuals that inspire you, build your self-esteem, and reflect your personal values? February is digging up these questions for you, and giving you a chance to reunite with friends, dreams, and hopes that you might have had tension with or forgotten. You can heal old hurts, gracefully choose to part ways, and get back to what has been calling you for a while now. Be careful of over-giving or giving into dynamics that leave you drained of energy, money, or time. These are precious for you now more than ever.
Mars and Uranus are moving through your house of financial stability, income, and personal values, bringing changes that can throw you off course. It’s time to play the long game. If what you thought was a dream career or even your traditional way of supporting yourself is forced to shift right now, see how you can creatively transform it without holding on too tightly to what needs to change. Think back on the lessons you’ve learned over the past year about your friendships, collaborations, and dreams. How can you use these lessons to develop wiser strategies, longer-term plans, and solid relationships that will be mutually beneficial? These energies are calling out your impulses, and begging you to rethink your plans and those you share them with. Zooming out and taking a practical approach to what you want to achieve now will support you in solidifying your path over the next two years.
Taurus & Taurus Rising
It’s time to find balance between who you are and the positions that you are stepping into, Taurus. What does it look like to bring your whole self to every team that you are a part of — including those you lead — while also navigating the systems, institutions, and rules that they are bound to? If a situation feels too rigid, find creative ways to work around it, and determine what is simply not for you. With Mars and Uranus in your first house, it might take extra effort to find common ground with others who aren’t on the same page as you. Take care to listen for what others are wanting, and see if there is a way to create the circumstances that benefit all involved.
This month is giving you a burst of energy in your career, destiny, and the contribution you want to make in the world around you. It’s time to clarify, review, and observe the possibilities that come up for you and the specific path that you want to take. As a sign driven by values, work, and worldly possessions, it will be important to make some agreements with yourself: How do you want those around you to feel when they collaborate with you? What sacrifices are you willing to make in your career, and what non-negotiables are you establishing in order to honor your values, dignity, and integrity? Standing by your boundaries and actively creating peace between your ego and your work will support the moves you want to make.
Gemini & Gemini Rising
It’s okay to own your vision, Gemini. Self-doubt, perfectionism, and the fear of not knowing how things will turn out can all prevent you from moving forward. Don’t let them. There are words, stories, and concepts you’re meant to speak, document, and study over the next two years. Right now, Uranus and Mars are pulling you out of the spotlight so you can get closer to what has been calling you. Ask how you can get out of your own way.
Get comfortable with working alone. Make a ritual of dedicating yourself to your visions and dreams. Our forms of self-sabotage are often rooted in events, hurts, and disappointments that we’d rather not talk about. Whether you’re actively digging through this or not, this month can feel exhausting, inspiring, and uneasy all at once. Take a nap. Take three. See how much space you can take from your screens and distractions. Instead of overstimulating yourself with multitasking, ask which projects need to be done now and which should wait until you can be fully present with them. Protect your work, ideas, and energy this month, especially the things that are still raw, new, or uncomfortable for you. Brainstorm or share with a few trusted friends, confide in counselors or therapists if you can, but honor where you are by not feeling pressured to give everyone access to you. This phase is preparing you for new roles and more liberating experiences you’ll have in the coming years. Have fun in the quiet while you can.
Cancer & Cancer Rising
Potent energy surrounds your friendships and networks, hopes and wishes right now, Cancer. The ways that you hope to give to the world, to show up in your community and coexist with your people are undergoing reviews, revolutions, and transformations. This forward momentum can give you the energy to find the right people to make things happen, but can also give way to issues as your social circle shifts and adjusts.
Mercury is retrograding through your 8th house of collaborations, shared resources, and power. With Saturn and Jupiter also here, it’s time to step into your own sense of independence and security. This kind of process doesn’t happen overnight. It often brings us back to the core wounds, fears, and triggers that left us in pain in the first place. We give our power away when we fear the consequences of standing up for ourselves. We wield our power over others when we fear that we can only receive love, respect, and care through control. This year — and especially this month — is giving you a beautiful opportunity to dig deep into your healing process so that you can first give to yourself everything that you are wanting from others. Don’t be afraid of cutting out dynamics that make you feel small. What dreams of yours are demanding your full attention? What wishes and connections is it time to release? You’ve learned a lot about relationships over the past three years, and those lessons are continuing for your benefit.
Leo & Leo Rising
Leo, some things from the past are coming up this retrograde, whether reunions with friends, interactions with frenemies or exes, or old business opportunities presenting themselves. While some of these might trigger your defenses or pain points, they don’t all need to be as bad or dramatic as we tend to make Mercury retrograde out to be. Take care with how you engage these energies. Uranus and Mars are in your 10th house, heating up your career, reputation, legacy, and your interactions with authority and leadership. Needless to say, these revolutionary and often impulse-driven planets aren’t exactly “at home” in a part of our chart that’s so driven toward the long-term. What do you need to clear up as you push toward your goals? How can you take pause with the impulses in order to redirect your energy as needed?
This is one of those transits that asks us to get comfortable with accountability, with giving and accepting apologies, and with evaluating what you want and need from your connections. If a partnership is no longer a healthy fit, it’s okay to let it go. But if it’s worth it, now is the time to get real about the work that certain relationships will require. Saturn is here for the next three years, and can teach us about giving ourselves closure where others cannot (or will not). This phase is pushing you to grow in how you interact with others and to bring humanity, compassion, and conviction to the ways that you lead. Jupiter is also here, helping you to clearly identify what needs mending and providing you with some nurturing energy while you move forward.
Virgo & Virgo Rising
Virgo, let me ask you a question that you might have heard before: Are you overworking? Or better yet, are you feeling valued for the work that you’re doing? Is your daily life speaking to the true goals and visions that you have for yourself? If you day-to-day is dragging you down, Uranus and Mars want you to zoom out to see the bigger picture at play. You might be more than willing to meet this demand, though. Plans and approaches that once made sense for your long-term trajectory may not fit together anymore, or might need some re-working.
If you’re pushing yourself beyond your limits or hitting walls in your health or work, it’s time to ask yourself why, and evaluate which battles are worth fighting. What is on the other side of this moment? What are you working toward, really? It might be time for you to explore the potential of your own creativity, and your ability to make your world rather than lean on the systems that have shaped it for you before. While this energy might feel urgent this month, trust that you have time to bring this to life. Mars and Uranus come with the threat of impulsivity and quick decisions that we can regret later. Research your next move, reach out to potential mentors and guides, and set the stage for smooth transitions down the line. Saturn and Jupiter are blessing you with a chance to make foundations now for moves you can make over the next two years.
Libra & Libra Rising
Libra, it’s time to check in. What brings you joy? What forms of pleasure are you allowing into your life right now? If you could have anything you wanted in your love and relationships, what would you ask for? And most importantly...do you trust that you are worthy of your wishes?
Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury are moving through the part of your chart that rules all of the areas above. There is something that is wanting to come forward for you — to come alive and make itself a lasting presence in your life. But this gift is asking you to take the leap and meet it halfway. If something feels too out of reach, or like too big of a risk for you, how can you gently nudge yourself to move forward one step at a time? With Uranus in your house of shared resources, personal power, and healing, it could be a time to dig into your reserves and demand what you want from your life and the people in it. Trust that you’re worthy of receiving the love and support that you provide others, and that your creative wishes are worthy of your investment. Sometimes we get caught in cycles of giving to others without regard or taking more than we need. Either way, this causes trouble when you or others begin to resent the lack of reciprocity. Instead of waiting for things to get unbearable or holding your tongue to keep the peace, work together to seek solutions that can balance the scales.
Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
Challenges and growth opportunities are facing you on the home front, Scorpio. You’re re-defining what home looks and feels like for you, and your personal relationships may challenge your concepts of family and tradition. What has your family life taught you about autonomy, integrity, and unconditional love in relationships? Both your ability to give these things to your partners, as well as you knowing that you deserve to receive them from others.
Mars is in your 7th house of committed partnerships this month, be they business, marriage, or other very close ties. Mars can give us the gusto to re-energize what is falling off, or the heat that leads to breakdowns. If you’re feeling challenged right now, take some time to step back and figure out what triggers and discomforts are a result of your conditioning, and what obstacles are no longer worth the effort. We tend to associate Uranus with revolutions, shake ups, and all sorts of drama. This isn’t a very promising energy for the place where marriages, long-term commitments, and frenemies reside, but Uranus (and Mars) are both about personal expression, freedom, and courage. If you know that a change needs to be made, you can work with this transit to find ways of meeting your people in the middle. This month is asking you to let go of the need to control, and demanding your full honesty and emotional availability. Take your time. The rewards on the other side of this month will be well worth it.
Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
Be careful of overdoing it this month, Sag. February is giving you motivation to tackle projects and get back into routines, but Mars’s energy combined with Uranus can also bring up bickering, tension, and the stress of trying to play catchup or tackle too much at once. If you need something different out of your days, take the initiative to make changes while being considerate of others who will be affected by your choices. You’ll have plenty of chances to connect with loved ones and build on relationships and networks this month, but it’s a good time to move consciously rather than quickly. Mercury, Saturn, and Jupiter are huddled together in your house of thoughts, communications, and close connections, making it easy to go after a shiny new opportunity, to lose track of the details, or get pulled into dramas. Take your time to gut check what is being presented to you and who is around you, and assess whether it serves your best interest.
Double- and triple-check any offers on the table this month. Read the fine print, read between the lines, and feel free to ask for clarification and a second opinion. If you get a chance to pursue something that you’ve put on the back burner, see how you can work it into your current life circumstances. How can you pare down your days to just the essentials, and focus on one thing at a time? The conscious efforts you make in your work, health, and relationships this month could yield some stabilizing benefits for your future.
Capricorn & Capricorn Rising
February could reveal some lessons on scarcity, self-worth, and the ways that we relate to your definitions of abundance, Cap. While Mercury is retrograding in this area of your chart this month, Saturn is there for the next two years. Uncomfortable feelings might arise, but confronting them directly can help you navigate the energy as it comes up for you again in the future. What old skills of yours can you brush up on and put to use in order to create security for yourself in the present?
News and upheavals in love and creativity abound this month, for better or for worse. With Mars and Uranus joining forces, be mindful of acting on new ideas, projects, and relationships impulsively. It could be easy to indulge in what feels good right now, but that you might regret later on, especially with Mercury retrograde. Try to find a balance between the surge of energy that you’re being given this month and the need to take care of your responsibilities. How can you use your inner fire to support the creative breakthroughs that could bring about long-term stability for you? Accountability partners, good friends, and other forms of support can be immensely helpful right now as Mercury and Saturn bump heads with Uranus, potentially dampening your feelings of self-esteem and overall wellness. Lean on the people who can help you see the bigger picture rather than get caught up in details and fears. You’ll get through this and hopefully have some fun while doing so.
Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
You’re being pushed to review the roots of who you are, the conditions that shaped who you have been, and embrace the pressure of becoming someone new, Aquarius. Your home life — whether physical location, the relationships and maternal figures that represent home, or the emotional connection you have to your lineage — has come under scrutiny over the past two years. February brings attention to this area in ways that could hardly be ignored.
This moment is asking you to mature beyond the conditions you’ve been given or even the environment that you’re in. Mars and Uranus can be rowdy alone and flat out destructive when they come together the way that they will this month. But they are giving you a chance to consciously free yourself from traumas, toxic patterns, and ways of being in relationships that have been passed onto you. This month could bring up questions and old hurts around where love and support were lacking growing up, and how that arises in our present lives. In the midst of changes, how have you been loving on yourself? This transit doesn’t have to be all bad or difficult. It’s a chance to take charge of your personal healing, your power to regenerate yourself, and to dictate a new course for the rest of your life. Venus is in your sign, supporting the changes you put forward if you do them with honesty and integrity. By the end of the month, you’ll have the insight, resources, and motivation to set a new way forward.
Pisces & Pisces Rising
This month could teach you how certain communication patterns and daily habits undermine your ability to attain the peace that you crave, Pisces. Mars and Uranus are affecting how you think and communicate, and the people that you share yourself with this month. If personal connections go through a rough patch, prioritize getting clear and honest with yourself about what is needing to change. Your environment is shifting, and it’s okay for you to evolve in response to that. You may feel more sensitive to your immediate surroundings right now, and with Mars still roaming around your 3rd house, it could be easy to snap at those who aren’t aware of what’s going on with you or to finally share information or feelings that you’ve been holding back. If you feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or exhausted, be upfront with setting the boundaries you need in order to take care of yourself.
Mercury retrograde can bring up some old thought patterns and behaviors that need to be revisited, cleaned up, and healed. Venus is here as well, helping you to find creative solutions and the quiet time you need. If your energy is low, honor what your body, mind, and spirit are telling you. Rather than trying to do everything at once, or throwing the towel in altogether, see what balance you can find and what means of care you can practice that leave you feeling satisfied and rested rather than frustrated and depleted.
